Today IBM shows the latest technology for microswitches and memory chips that can be applied to the core of computer chips: a drop of ionic liquid. This latest technology converts the metal oxide on the computer chip from a conductive state to an insulated state and then converts it back. It is a completely different control method from the existing traditional semiconductor. It does not transmit power or heat in the insulated state, so this is a revolutionary breakthrough for improving the logic performance of the computer processor.
On the left side of the figure is IBM dropping a drop of ionic liquid on the circuit; the right side of the figure above shows the amplification of the circuit. The circuit components include the power supply on the left, the drain on the right, and the four diagnostic contacts from the top and bottom.
If the semiconductor used now wants to work properly, it must generate a voltage, which seems to be a "gate", and then discharge the current to form a loop to drive the device to run. IBM's use of this technology will completely reverse the way we work now. IBM will drop a drop (about 1 cubic millimeter) of ionic electrolyte on these circuits. The ions are filled with atoms with positive (negative) poles and negative. The positive molecular molecules then form an electronic circuit that forms a current.
