Toshiba is optimistic about the LED lighting market and the German giant BJB

Toshiba Corp. is now working with German lighting company BJB to develop and sell new LED products, and will introduce socket-type design LED lamps. It is expected that its product design will become an international standard in the future.

Toshiba is developing LED modules, the most important parts for solid-state lighting; and will commission BJB, the world's largest luminaire manufacturer, to develop socket-type designs. Toshiba is also considering taking a share with BJB's global sales network.

LED lights are still in the preliminary acceptance stage, unlike traditional incandescent and fluorescent bulbs, which do not have a consistent slot design. Some LEDs are designed using conventional luminaires, but LED devices are increasingly used as flat-panel or panel products, which requires special slot correspondence.

Toshiba hopes to work with BJB to create a socket design specification that will become an international standard in 2010.

Toshiba lags behind rivals Royal Philips Electronics of the Netherlands, Osram GmbH (Osram) and General Electric Co. of the United States. Through this energy-efficient technology, Toshiba hopes to increase its market share, and aims to increase the sales of environmentally-friendly lamps including LEDs to 1 trillion yen in 2020.

According to the city's Fuji economy, the Japanese LED market is expected to start in 2008 and will grow 330% to 57.8 billion yen by 2012. Sales in Europe are also expected to thrive quickly.
