French militant protests Apple's claim to 3,000 euros in retail stores

Netease Technology News January 5, according to 9to5Mac reported that although Apple recently suffered a series of lawsuits due to the "downhill", but the company launched a counterattack on the day of security, a French rights defending organization to court, on the grounds that the organization is Apple's French store held a protest. Local French media reported that Apple has sued Attac (Financial Transaction and Assistance to Citizens Tax Association) and claimed 3000 euros (approximately US$3,600). The case took place on December 2, 2017. Attac’s 100 members occupied Apple’s Paris flagship store and publicly protested Apple’s tax payment in the country. Apple said that it does not deny that people have the right to protest, but holding protests in its stores may cause harm to its customers and employees. An Apple spokesperson told AFP that while Apple respects Attac’s right to freedom of expression, its recent actions “put our customers and employees at risk”. In addition to seeking compensation of 3,000 euros, Apple is seeking a French court order to prohibit Attac from continuing similar protests in the future. Apple believes Attac should be fined up to 150,000 euros if it violates the ban. This is not the first time that Attac has initiated a protest against Apple, especially regarding its taxation in Ireland. On November 3, 2017, the same day that the iPhone X was released, Attac members placed Apple in the door of the Apple store and put up a sign saying "Apple, pay tax!" Attac believes that this lawsuit is not only to prevent the organization from launching protests against Apple, but also includes other multinational companies. But Attıc spokesperson Dominique Plihon said that the lawsuit was "trying to stop us from taking new citizen action to condemn tax evasion by multinational companies." Although Apple has been fined 15 billion euros by the European Union for tax evasion in Ireland, the company is appealing this verdict. It will take us some time to see the final decision. (small)
