Nordic Semiconductor Announces State-of-the-Art, High-Performance, Single-Chip, Low-Power Bluetooth SoC Devices in Micro Package Sizes

Oslo, Norway - July 5, 2016 – Nordic Semiconductor announces its nRF52832 Bluetooth® low energy (formerly known as Bluetooth Smart) system-on-chip (SoC) wafer-level chip scale package (WL-CSP) with footprint A quarter of the nRF52832 device package is designed to target a new generation of high-performance wearable products.

Compared to the nRF52832 QFN48 device, which is large in size but simple in package and has a standard 6.0 X 6.0mm footprint, the nRF52832 WL-CSP device features an ultra-compact 3.0 X 3.2mm footprint and offers the same full-featured single-chip feature set. And the best ultra-low power applications in its class; its powerful onboard 64MHz ARM® Cortex®-M4F processor enables protocol and application tasks to be processed in an unprecedented amount of time, enabling it to compete with other competitors The device enters sleep mode in a shorter time to save power.

The nRF52832 WL-CSP device has the same 512kB flash and 64kB RAM as the nRF52832 device; it is used for consumer-friendly touch-pair (Touch-to-Pair) on-chip NFCTM tags; best-in-class ultra-high performance; ultra-low-power multi-protocol Low-power Bluetooth, ANTTM, and proprietary 2.4GHz radio, 5.5mA peak RX/TX current, and on-chip RF balun; and a unique fully automated power management system that allows designers to achieve optimal power consumption.

The nRF52832 WL-CSP device is compatible with Nordic's Bluetooth 4.2 stack and supports the SDK, including the latest S132 multi-purpose parallel software stack, nRF5 SDK, nRF5 SDK for HomeKit and nRF5 SDK for Airfuel for resonant wireless charging.

KjeTIl Holstad, Nordic Semiconductor's ultra-low-power wireless product manager, commented: "The ultra-compact footprint nRF52832 device is available, bringing new design opportunities for wearables and other space-constrained IoT applications. This SoC device is now in volume. Production is immediately available for upcoming product development. To date, the evolution of wearable products has only one evolutionary direction: increasing performance and functionality, and increasingly slim and lighter form factor. nRF52832 WL-CSP device Clearly the smallest and most advanced Bluetooth low-power SoC device on the market today."

The nRF52832 WL-CSP device is now in volume production.
