Advanced car safety

The EyeQ2 processor developed by STMicroelectronics in cooperation with MobilEye is currently the most powerful dedicated processor for automotive vision systems. It has multiple cores and 7 video processing units for advanced driver assistance functions such as: Impact technology, yaw alarm system and pedestrian protection. STMicroelectronics and MobilEye are working with a number of market-leading automotive parts suppliers to develop machine vision systems for world-class automakers. Currently, the first cars equipped with machine vision systems are on the road. The EyeQ2 processor received BusinessCar Magazine's 2010 Automotive Safety Award.

STMicroelectronics also showcased the latest automotive CMOS camera module for the Visual Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), which offers higher sensitivity and dynamic range than similar products on the market. In the advanced security display area, STMicroelectronics also demonstrated radar navigation advanced driver assistance system chip solutions, including 24/26GHz radar chips and active cruise systems for close-range and radar-guided advanced driver assistance systems mounted on the side of the body. 77GHz radar chip for long-distance forward-looking systems such as (ACC) and automatic braking systems.

Infotainment

In the infotainment showcase, STMicroelectronics exhibited the most advanced multi-standard digital broadcast receiver chip (RF+ baseband). The pair is based on a digital broadcast baseband IC that monopolizes AM/FM phase diversity and dual DAB links. The chipset is a cost-effective parallel operation solution that seamlessly switches sources between traditional AM/FM and terrestrial digital broadcasting (DAB+/DMB-A/DRM).

The HD Radio/Class D demo shows a complete digital link from broadcast to power amplifier. ST's HD Radio receiver chip supports all of the latest features of this terrestrial digital broadcasting technology, including simultaneous reception of audio and data from two independent broadcast channels. The Power Amplifier section provides energy-efficient, environmentally-friendly digital Class D audio signals that are compliant with the latest automotive technology trends such as start-stop systems and hybrids.

Navigation and positioning

ST's Cartesio+ application processor has a built-in GPS module that combines superior processing performance with positioning accuracy and a rich set of peripheral interfaces to enable a reliable and feature-rich multimedia car navigation system. At the same time, cutting-edge system-on-chips meet the most stringent automotive quality requirements.

Another product demonstration introduces STMicroelectronics' latest generation of single-chip stand-alone positioning receivers, the Teseo II, the industry's most flexible and cost-effective solution for portable and in-vehicle information processing system chips. Compatible with all major navigation standards including GPS, GALILEO and GLONASS, ST's Teseo II has excellent positioning accuracy and room sensitivity.

According to research by Strategy Analytics, the market's total content is expected to grow by more than 10% annually by 2016. Another market research company, Gartner's market forecast report, classifies automotive chips into automotive subsystems, and believes that semiconductor content in security systems and in-vehicle multimedia entertainment systems will grow at 14% and 7% respectively over the next five years (CAGR) ). STMicroelectronics has seized market opportunities and is the beneficiary of these two market forecasts.
