Eight crazy cases allow you to see the infinite possibilities of virtual reality

Some time ago Sony finally announced that PlayStation VR virtual reality headline will meet consumers in October. With the launch of the PSVR, Sony will join the big names of Facebook, HTC and Samsung to witness how virtual reality technology will change the way people enter entertainment: whether watching movies, playing games or socializing with other users.

If you can (in the virtual world) be immersed in the environment, you step on the soft beach, watching the sea go through the tiptoes, who would like to sit in front of the TV to see the sea boring? Looking back at the conference, Sony and some video game and media companies presented some of the VR products in advance. Here are the 8 experiences I have tried:

1. The feeling of experiencing free fall in a virtual world

Social VR is one of the participating games. Players are on a virtual beach surrounded by Castle Peak. They can play with other players and participate in dance parties. True, the virtual world can dance. There is a more exciting experience in this cartoon world. Then I was taken to the air and it was flying high. The trees below were getting smaller and smaller. I flew over the top of the mountain and even saw the blue ocean extending beyond the horizon. Of course, if you fly high, you will always be on the ground. Soon, I started to fall freely. This is an accelerated heartbeat experience. In reality, my feet are still standing steadily at the conference, but seeing myself falling vertically, the horizon is getting closer to me and my heart rate is getting faster and faster.

I have not tried skydiving before. But it was once experienced in the virtual reality world.

2. Try to play against large robots

The RIGS Mechanized Combat League game is very simple and crude. At the beginning of the game, the armored soldiers saluted me and expressed loyalty; after that, I took a huge fighting robot and was taken to a futuristic arena in Dubai. Here I will play against the villain and other teammates are also manned mechs.

Traditional FPS game enthusiasts will get a lot of water in this game, because the game uses the traditional PlayStation handle buttons, and the laser cannon, jump, and move buttons are the same as before. At first, I felt a little uncomfortable and kept looking back to see if the enemy had ambushed from behind. However, it feels good to run in a virtual arena and people will always want to continue playing.

3. Experience to be a Godzilla

Why can only Godzilla and King Kong destroy buildings? I have to try this fun thing. In another Playroom VR game, I became a monster of this kind, obviously in a bad mood, and I needed to push it to several buildings to vent my anger. My head just needs to swing right and left to push it to a building. Looking at the little robot under the foot of WALL-E, I was afraid of scurrying around. I continued to frantically destroy.

In the end, I also suffered resistance. The robot started throwing boxes and cans at me. I could only dodge.

4. Watch a private violin concert up close

After experiencing free fall, robot battles and destruction of architecture, I want to take a break and listen to some soft classical music. So I experienced a private music performance. The performance was a concert of the famous violinist Joshua Bell who had previously shot with a 360-degree camera.

In the virtual world, I can stand beside the violinist without affecting his passionate performance. If I do this in the real world, I would have been asked by security guards to leave the concert hall. Looking back, I can still see the recording equipment and the microphone behind me. This is the tool that the video director puts on site to receive audio. These small details make this 360-degree performance even more memorable.

5. Become a magician

If you want to experience what it feels like to be a magician, you might like Waltz of the Wizard. The game allows the player to try out a magician's experience, collect magic items, and put things into a large box to create magical effects. After I tried to put a ball into the coffin, I gained new ability to launch the lightning by shaking the handle.

However, there will be some problems in the process. Sometimes I don't have a control handle and the virtual arm in the game drifts to the right of the screen. A staff member explained to me that this was only an early version of the game. The camera was working with the motion controller. Sometimes the camera traced the problem. Some strange phenomena appeared in the game. For example, I tried to pick up the same thing twice from the table, and once I wanted to move my arm to the left to ensure that it appeared in the middle of the picture.

6. Watch Virtual Reality Videos

Virtual reality has many applications besides games, and it can also bring new viewing experiences to the audience in the film and television industry. Animated short film "Allumette" is a good example.

In the film "Allumette", I saw a sailboat-style wooden airship flying through the clouds. I took a few steps in the real world and the correspondence also became closer to the spacecraft in the virtual world. I also saw a mother in the cabin talking to her daughter. This feeling is like being in a diorama mirror created by famous Hollywood director Tim Burton: to make the viewing more real.

The film took about 15 minutes. I stood 15 minutes like this, but if the film was longer than an hour it would be uncomfortable. But when I watched this movie, I could walk into the world of the screen, and I could turn to see the glowing stairs lighting up the night sky. All this reduced the discomfort of standing up to a certain extent.

7. A strange journey in the virtual reality world

Megaton Rainfall is the strangest VR game I've ever played. Among them, I played a superhero and needed to fly over the city to defend the city from alien attacks.

I can fly over the house with almost no restrictions. The problem is that the house looks the same, and it feels like no one is inside. The brown tone of the game also made me feel that I was defending a former Soviet city that had long been abandoned.

The alien spaceship I was looking for was similar to the Coit Tower, a San Francisco landmark. The weapons that are used to fight aliens are light swords. The speed of the slashing is very slow. The aliens will be cut in half after the hit. . But in general this is indeed a surreal experience.

8. Crazy vent in the virtual office

Job Simulator is a game for those who have just experienced irritating day-to-day work. You can vent in your company without fear of being fired. In this joke-like game, I sit in a typical office cubicle that is common in modern society and put an old computer in front of me. I opened the computer again and again, closed it again. In addition, clunky printers and working documents piled up on shelves can be seen in the office. Of course, in order to vent, I immediately messed up all these things.

I threw away the books on the bookshelf, pulled out all the electrical plugs, and almost set my own hands. Then I ate about five virtual donuts, then turned on the coffee machine and let the brewed coffee flow all over the floor. I highly recommend that everyone try to vent themselves, at least once in the virtual world.

These experiences mentioned above show us a wide range of applications of virtual reality technology from different perspectives. Although all of them are entertainment experience projects, we can see its potential in other fields. In addition to the game and film and television industry, other areas such as education, medicine, e-commerce, and real estate have begun to try to develop applications that use virtual reality technology. Obviously, as far as virtual reality technology is concerned, video games are only the first stop, but they are not always the mainstream market. Changing people’s daily life styles and becoming a necessity for consumers is the ultimate goal.
