Samsung takes the first step, followed by LG
Samsung Electronics has taken the lead in building a stable LED procurement system and investment. In 2009, it won the overwhelming market share in the LED backlight panel field. In 2010, the company's LCD panel division plans to produce 22 million LED backlight panels. LEDs will basically be sourced from its group company Samsung LED. However, in order to make up for the shortcomings and expand the variety of Volume Zones, it will also be purchased from Taiwan's Epistar and Formosa Epitaxy (FOREPI).
LG Display, which is catching up with Samsung Electronics, plans to produce 15 million to 20 million LED backlight panels in 2010. It is reported that although LEDs have been supplied by its group company LG Innotek, the increase in production is behind Samsung LED, so it will adopt a policy of active procurement from other companies. It will be supplied by Seoul Semiconductor, Samsung LED, Taiwan GAGA Optotech, Yanguang Optoelectronics and Toyota Synthetic.
Sharp plans to produce 15 million LED backlight panels in 2010. In addition to purchasing LEDs from the Nichia Chemical Industry, it will also increase its own LEDs. If it is still not enough, it will be purchased from LED manufacturers in Taiwan and South Korea.
AUO, the largest LCD panel maker in Taiwan, plans to produce 5 million LED backlight panels in 2010. Although AUO's production plan is small compared to the above three manufacturers, many TV manufacturers have begun to consider AUO as a second or third panel supplier, so AUO's influence is rapidly increasing. Big. AUO purchases LEDs from its group company, Lextar Electronics. Insufficient parts will be purchased from manufacturers such as Guangguang Optoelectronics and Samsung LED.
Chi Mei Electronics becomes a typhoon eye
Chimei Innolux, formed by the merger of Taiwan's former ChiMei Optoelectronics and Innolux Display, will be the focus of the future. The company plans to produce 13.5 million to 16.5 million LED backlight panels in 2010. Chi Mei's LCD TV supply chain can be divided into two major parts: LCD panels for Samsung's TV division, and LCD panels for TV manufacturers. The former uses panels produced by Chi Mei Optoelectronics and LED modules supplied by Samsung LEDs, which are assembled into the LCD module by Chi Lin Technology of Chi Mei Group. The latter is responsible for assembling the liquid crystal module by Foxconn Group, the parent company of Chi Mei Electronics, and then supplying it to the TV manufacturer.
Lin Xiujie pointed out that regarding Foxconn's panel supply chain to manufacturers outside Samsung Electronics, two points should be noted in the future. The first point is the LED investment of Chi Mei Lighting Technology, a group company of Chi Mei Optoelectronics. It is reported that due to the improvement of technical strength, the company's LED is expected to be used in television sets. Kellett Optoelectronics is likely to enter the field in the second half of 2010. Another point is the trend of mainland TV manufacturers. Chi Mei Electronics has a high share in the mainland market. If mainland TV manufacturers decide to strengthen LED-backlit TVs, then Chi Mei Optoelectronics, which has a strong customer base in the mainland, is likely to have its advantages. In addition, not only the LCD module, but also Foxconn may be responsible for assembling the LCD TV.
The market share of Chinese TV manufacturers in the 2010 Spring Festival commercial war has declined. Lin Xiujie pointed out that the main reason is that mainland manufacturers failed to prepare LED-backlit LCD TVs. Continental manufacturers have been working on low-cost 32-inch LCD TVs equipped with cold cathode tube (CCFL) backlights. However, in the future commercial war, mainland manufacturers are expected to pay attention to LED-backlit LCD TVs. Lin Xiujie said that if the production plans of seven mainland TV manufacturers are accumulated, the total output of LCD TVs in mainland China will reach 40.7 million units in 2010, and the products equipped with LED backlights will reach 8.75 million units of the overall 17.5%.
