Infineon's new LED driver powers compact, affordable LED car headlights

LED car headlights enable energy savings and support new lamp designs and applications such as matrix beams and laser high beam. Infineon Technologies AG further supports automotive lighting technology. Today (16th), it launched high-power LED drivers designed for automotive headlights, which are part of the LITIX Power Flex and LITIX Power products. These devices offer flexible DC/DC drive solutions for LED systems designed for power levels up to 50W or higher. The device's application design is flexible, including a string of up to 55V, a string of many medium-power LEDs, or a small number of LEDs with currents up to 3A or higher.


The LITIX Power Flex TLD5541-1QV and LITIX Power TLD5190QV LED drivers are ideal for high power and high current LED applications. These include automotive headlights, lasers and LED headlights. In addition, they are ideal for battery-powered LED applications as a high-efficiency power supply. In addition, they also help to design cost-saving full-LED automotive headlights, including economical full-LED headlamps designed to fit in tight spaces such as motorcycle handlebars.

LITIX Power Flex TLD5541-1QV helps maximize LED system efficiency

The TLD5541-1QV is the first product in the new multi-topology DC/DC controller family LITIX Power Flex. Synchronous H-bridge DC/DC controllers are ideal for driving a wide range of high-power LED devices with a maximum system efficiency of over 92%. This can improve system reliability and improve thermal performance and PCB size. Thanks to switching frequency optimization and adjustable range, the TLD5541-1QV helps to reduce EMC emissions and meet stringent EMC requirements such as CISPR25class5.

The TLD5541-1QV features seamless buck-boost regulation and fast dynamic load trip performance. As a result, it can help achieve cost-saving LED headlamp designs with sophisticated protection and diagnostic capabilities. A TLD5541-1QV can drive two or more LED loads with separate switches on a string of up to 55V. The current accuracy specification of the LED is +/- 3%.

The TLD5541-1QV features built-in protection and an SPI interface for analog and digital (PWM) dimming. The switching frequency can be adjusted from 200kHz to 700kHz. The adjustable soft start function limits current peaks and voltage overshoot at startup.

LITIX Power TLD5190QV helps reduce LED system cost

The LITIX Power series of DC/DC converters and controllers are designed for medium to high power applications, including LED daytime running lights and LED low beam and high beam lights. The new member of the product line, the TLD5190QV, is a synchronous H-bridge DC/DC controller with similar functionality to the TLD5541-1QV. It has no SPI interface and is especially suitable for LED control electronics without a microcontroller and is easier to implement. In addition, it offers integrated protection, analog and digital (PWM) dimming, and supports adjustable switching frequencies from 200kHz to 700kHz.
