Qualcomm develops IoT baseband chips with a battery life of more than 10 years

“IoT is a very promising area. Qualcomm will actively invest human and material resources in this field”. Qualcomm Japan's CDMA Technology Marketing and Business Development Director, Shun Shunko, introduced the Qualcomm's entry in the IT Forum (sponsored by the US Embassy) at SEMICON Japan 2015 (Tokyo Ariake International Convention Center) on December 17, 2015 Networking (IoT).
According to Yu Yong, Qualcomm is now advancing four major initiatives in the IoT field. The first is to develop a communication method suitable for IoT such as "LTE eMTC (enhanced Machine-Type CommunicaTIons)" and to promote practical use. The second is the Qualcomm Snapdragon Flight for the drone. The third is machine learning based on cognitive computing. The fourth is to support developers.
Among them, LTE eMTC is a communication method that emphasizes the “power saving”, “low price” and “high network coverage” required by IoT. The previous LTE pays attention to speed and large capacity. Now, 3GPP (3rd GeneraTIon Partnership Project) is advancing standardization work. "The target is a 5Wh battery, which can be used for 5 to 10 years without replacement." Qualcomm is expected to include the construction of base stations, and the implementation of eMTC will be realized by 2017. The eMTC is followed by the IoT communication method "NB-IoT (NarrowBand-IoT)" using the mobile phone network. The goal of battery life is more than 10 years.
For users who can't wait for eMTC and NB-IoT to be practical, Qualcomm will launch a modem chip supporting "LTE Cat 1" in the first half of 2016. Cat 1 does not control the downstream communication speed to a maximum of 10 Mbit/s, the upstream communication speed is controlled at a maximum of 5 Mbit/s, and achieves a battery life of more than 10 years in the power saving mode. Yu Yong said that he is "intended to use products such as smart meters, asset tracking and wearable devices".

Provide the core components of the drone with a single substrate
In the field of drones, Qualcomm announced in September 2015 the "Qualcomm Snapdragon Flight" that integrates the core components of the drone except the motor and battery on a single substrate. Snapdragon Flight is equipped with a "Snapdragon 801", 2GB memory, GPS receiver, 4K camera for aerial photography, self-positioning camera and flight controller, etc., which have been removed from the SoC with a smartphone (smartphone) from 1.5 to 2 generations ago. .
According to Xu Yong, a Chinese-made commercial drone is equipped with 7 substrates, with a total substrate area of 189cm2 and a price of around 100,000 yen. If you use Snapdragon Flight, you can reduce the substrate to 1 (total area 23.2cm2), and the price can be reduced to about 30,000 yen.
The Snapdragon 801 is equipped with four 32-bit processor cores operating at over 2 GHz and a graphics core operating at 400 MHz. "A lot of applications can be easily added later" (should be permanent). For example, if you install Navigator Flight Controller, a Qualcomm-developed application software, you can estimate the moving distance based on the image change amount of the camera to determine the current position of the drone. In the case of a model equipped with a stereo camera, it is also possible to measure the distance from the object.
Focus on supporting developers in the IoT field
Cognitive computing-based machine learning In the smart phone security technology "Snapdragon Smart Protect", it was just used to predict external attacks to take countermeasures. “It takes time for IoT” (should be permanent).
In support of developers, Qualcomm will release two board products for IoT. One is a board that supports developers. It is equipped with a "MSM8016" with a modem removed from the SoC "MSM8916" for smartphones, a 13M pixel camera, 1GB memory, MicroSD card slot, HDMI, voice output, and various other general-purpose interfaces. The OS supports the IoT kernel for Android, Ubuntu, and Windows 10. The other is a board that can be directly embedded in the product, namely: "System on Module". It has been used in many products such as surveillance cameras and projectors.
With the launch of these boards, Qualcomm has also established a community that supports developers. I have to say that "high pass has always been a closed world event (mobile phone), so it is not good at transmitting information to the outside. But in the IoT field, in order to absorb the wisdom of everyone, we will focus on supporting developers in the future."

Silicone Tube Neon LED Strip is  the hottest product in the world.put the led strip inside  milky Silicone tube.

With  good waterproof performance. The milky white cover makes the led strips soft and even,

single color and RGB ,colorful and other colors are optional. An external external controller can achieve the effect.
