The LED green lighting that shines in the Beijing Olympic Games and the Shanghai World Expo quietly entered the Beijing subway car. The reporter learned from the subway operation company that the air-conditioned train numbered G432 on the first line has been converted to LED lights by two cars, and the lighting renovation of the whole train will be completed next week.

Experts estimate that although LED lamps are expensive, equivalent to 50 times that of ordinary fluorescent lamps, the total cost of a train transformation is as high as 50,000 yuan, but the savings in electricity and maintenance costs can recover costs in about three years, so it is expected to be widely promoted in the Beijing subway.

LED, also known as semiconductor lighting, is a new generation of lighting technology that is different from ordinary energy-saving lamps. The G432 train being tested, all 168 fluorescent lamps in the compartment will be replaced with LED lights. Compared with the price of five or six yuan per fluorescent lamp, the market price of the newly replaced LED lighting market is as high as 300 yuan. The current pilot project belongs to the national "863" scientific and technological research content, which is temporarily provided by the manufacturer free of charge.

Generally, the theoretical life of an ordinary fluorescent lamp is 6000 hours. It can be used for 500 days according to the average running time of a subway train for 12 hours per day. However, in fact, the special environment in which the train continues to vibrate and the current is unstable makes the lamp in the car "normally bad". "Almost every lamp has to be changed three or four times a year, plus the labor cost of night maintenance, the whole train costs nearly 10,000 yuan a year." The staff of the ancient city depot said.

The outstanding advantages of replacing LED lights are extended life and significantly reduced energy consumption. The LED lamps that the G432 train is replacing have a service life of at least 30,000 hours. The strong shock resistance is very suitable for the subway operation environment. It is not necessary to change during the six or seven years. At the same time, LED lamps are nearly 50% more energy efficient than ordinary fluorescent lamps.

The reporter learned that the power of the ordinary lamp on the subway train is 40 watts, while the newly replaced LED lamp is only 18 watts, and the actual power in the lighting process can save about 18 watts. Based on the average level of 160 lamps per train and 12 hours of operation per day, LED lighting can save 12,600 kWh a year and save electricity costs by 8,000 yuan. “Overall, after the transformation of the whole train, the electricity and maintenance costs saved can recover the cost of LED lamps of 50,000 yuan in almost three years.” The person in charge of the LED project of the Beijing Metro Design Institute introduced.

At present, the number of trains put into operation by the Beijing Subway has reached more than 1,000. If all of them are converted into LED lighting, the environmental protection benefits are very considerable, but the transformation cost of more than 50 million yuan is also a big investment. According to reports, the city will decide whether LED lighting can be widely promoted in subway cars and stations according to the test results of G432 trains. Industry insiders suggest that subway LED lighting can be implemented first in the new rail transit line, because the use of LED lamps in the train procurement phase will be much lower than the cost of later transformation.
