Altera Launches OTN Solution Above 400G at OFC 2014

March 12, 2014, Beijing – Altera Corporation (Nasdaq: ALTR) today announced two new SoftSilicon® FPGA platforms that provide optical transmission equipment manufacturers with standard OTN solutions of 100 gigabits (B100G) or more. The platform combines FPGA and fully integrated IP solutions to reduce design time, simplify the integration process and test phase, and help customers focus on the benefits of value-added technology. The new product is Altera's SoftSilicon 400G transponder/wavelength converter (TPO516) and Altera SoftSilicon single-chip 20-channel arbitrary rate mapper supporting segmentation and reassembly (SAR) (TPOC226), which can be used in advanced ODU crossovers on OTN transport networks. Connected to the system. The product is the industry's first fully integrated 200G and 400G OTN solution, enabling device manufacturers to streamline development as they move to high-capacity transport networks.

OFC attendees can visit Altera booths to learn more about market-leading OTN solutions, which will help them grow from 28 nm to 20 nm and 14 nm technologies, achieving 400G and 1Tb throughput in a single device.

With these new products optimized for Arria 10 and StraTIx 10 FPGAs and SoCs, Altera's full range of devices meet the complex technical requirements of 400G and 1Tb OTN applications. These future new products will feature the advanced Intel 14 nm Tri-Gate process, cutting-edge solutions reduce time-to-market, while reducing risk and improving price/performance.

The OTN-enabled Altera SoftSilicon family of FPGA platforms offers standard devices with rich and comprehensive features, and its lead-out and software APIs are validated on reference hardware to ensure that products are available in the shortest possible time. The SoftSilicon device was developed and validated on a reference platform that is very close to the target application, thus reducing the development risk of the system provider. The FPGA platform also reduces this risk when new requirements arise from end customers or standards organizations, or as demand changes.

Develop and maintain low cost

Altera provides a convenient, unified software API for a variety of solutions. In this way, the software team can efficiently integrate its solutions into the system software, making software maintenance easier, especially when future hardware solutions are ported to more integrated systems and new process nodes.

Scott Bibaud, senior vice president of Altera's communications and broadcasting business unit, commented: "The cost of semiconductor processes, which are getting smaller and smaller, is declining. Due to the limited use of optical equipment, the development of OTN ASSP is becoming less and less economical. Our latest SoftSilicon Based on Arria 10 FPGAs, the products bring customers cutting-edge process technology and superior low power and high performance advantages to help them solve their problems while giving them the flexibility to highlight their product advantages."
