Fujitsu considers selling PC business with continuous losses, Lenovo will take over?

According to foreign media reports, informed sources revealed that Fujitsu plans to spin off its personal computer business and hand over control to Lenovo.

It is reported that Fujitsu is seeking to focus its business on higher priority areas such as information technology services.

As early as 2011, Lenovo Group and NEC established the largest personal computer group in Japan, NEC Lenovo Japan Group, each holding 51% shares and 49% shares. Data show that the new group accounted for nearly 25% of the Japanese PC market share of the new company in the commercial and government and consumer sectors have a lead. While continuing to equity holdings in the joint venture in July this year, NEC, Lenovo will be about 1.3 billion yuan (20 billion yen) acquisition of Lenovo NEC Holdings, Inc. NEC 90% of the shares.

In the Japanese personal computer market, Fujitsu ranked second, second only to NEC's Lenovo Japan Group. However, in view of the overall downturn in the PC market in recent years, its profit margins were under pressure and its losses in the last fiscal year exceeded 10 billion. Japanese yen (approximately 96.5 million U.S. dollars). In February of this year, it was reported that Japan's three largest PC makers, Toshiba, Fujitsu, and VAIO, considered the merger and warmed up the PC in cold winter, but the final plan failed. If the merger is successful, the combined company's share of the Japanese PC market will be higher than 30%, more than the current largest PC maker NEC Lenovo Japan.

It can be seen that Fujitsu has already planned to spin off its PC business. According to detailed information, the goal of both parties is to conclude a deal this month. The transaction method will be conducted in two ways: Fujitsu may transfer its PC design, development and manufacturing business to a Lenovo-led joint venture. The other way is the acquisition by Lenovo of a majority stake in the Fujitsu PC subsidiary.
