Yiguang Electronics sued Nichia Chemical White LED infringement in the United States

On April 20, 2012, Everlight Electronics filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Nichia Corp. in the US District Court for the State of Michigan, suing the court for prohibiting the creation, use, sale, sale of the company or Importing infringing products and requesting damages.

The patent in this case is US Patent 6,653,215, which is related to LED metallization process technology. Yiguang is the exclusive US licensee for the 215 patent, while the 215 patent is owned by Emcore. Everlight appealed to the court to declare that the Japanese patents 5,998,925 and 7,531,960 were invalid and unenforceable, and requested that the company's products not be infringed. It is understood that these Japanese patents are related to white LEDs using specific phosphors.
