A new generation of automotive front and rear LED drivers for high reliability and flexibility for external lighting

Beijing, May 20, 2014 – Texas Instruments (TI) today announced the industry's first headlamp dual-channel switch LED driver and the only linear LED driver that supports single-short LED detection of backlights. Unlike other LED drivers on the market, the TPS92630-Q1 and TPS92602-Q1 feature high-side current-sensing analog dimming and pulse-width modulation (PWM) dimming, as well as comprehensive diagnostic and thermal management capabilities that help designers create Highly flexible lighting system that meets the requirements of different national transportation regulations. Applications include automotive LED headlights, rear lights, and interior lighting.

Key features and benefits of the TPS92630-Q1 (for automotive rear lights):

· Industry's only single LED short-circuit detection solution: Single LED short-circuit detection and comprehensive diagnostics provide designers with the flexibility to meet the requirements of different national traffic regulations;

Multi-chip faulty bus connection: Not only can up to 15 IC connections be supported via a single bus, but no additional microcontrollers are required for easy logic control. Save valuable board space and cost compared to previous generations;

• Threshold programmable thermal current return: avoids LED flashing under thermal shutdown conditions.

Key features and benefits of the TPS92602-Q1 (for automotive headlights):

· Industry's first dual-channel switching LED driver: Supports a wide range of topologies per channel, including buck, boost, buck-boost, SEPIC and flyback, saving board space and cost;

· Supports high-side current-sensing linear analog dimming and high-side PMOS-FET PWM dimming: customers can create simple, robust designs;

· Dedicated diagnostic pin: Flexible control by sending normal status and fault information to the body control module;

• Auto-recovery: This unit implements LED open-circuit protection by switching between constant current and constant voltage modes: the TPS92602-Q1 switches to constant voltage mode when the LED is open and automatically returns to constant current mode when the LED is open.
