F1 Singapore Station launches special lighting system

Singapore is known for its leading technology, which will host the Formula One competition on September 28, 2008 using state-of-the-art technology. The Formula One team spends millions of dollars each year on R&D and testing, and racing enthusiasts also see Formula One as the highest level of technology in motorsport.

With the rapid development of technology in the arena, the first nighttime Formula One event in Singapore will see new breakthroughs. The state-of-the-art special lighting system and DigiFlags are two of the first innovations used in the Singapore Grand Prix, making Singapore one of the world's most advanced Formula One circuits.

This state-of-the-art lighting system, tailored by Italian lighting expert Valerio Maioli, will illuminate the F1 Singapore Grand Prix and the streets of the Lion City.

Designing and manufacturing lighting systems for street circuits is a great challenge. The system needs to provide appropriate visibility; reduce the refraction and reflection caused by the accumulation of water on the road or the shallow water of the participating vehicles; ensure the safety of the drivers, staff and the audience; and give the audience and the media the best visual effect.

Since the F1 Singapore Grand Prix will be held on the street, the lights must be positioned below the canopy of the trees on either side of the track to prevent unnecessary logging. In addition, the system should be built and dismantled in a short period of time to reduce harassment to the public. An aluminum bracket for approximate concerts will be used as a storage cable.

The lighting system will only be placed on one side of the track to reduce the refraction caused by TV broadcasts. There are also many factors to consider when choosing the location of the pole, including: the location of the grandstand, the location of the camera, and the infrastructure next to the track.

The bracket structure of the lighting system also takes into account the safety of the driver in the event of an accident. Unlike the use of large precast concrete blocks to support the electric column, this time a system called a seat is used. The electric column is joined to the steel plate and then pressed onto the plate with a smaller concrete block. This approach creates enough room for staff and rescue motorcycles to pass.

Digital flag technology (DigiFlag) technology has revolutionized the most traditional part of motorsport. In the past 50 years, the staff communicated with the drivers in different colors. Flags of different colors represent different warnings or instructions to the driver, for example: yellow flag for deceleration and no overtaking, and blue flag for giving way to the leader. In addition to the traditional cloth banner held by the staff, the F1 Singapore Grand Prix will use the digital flag for the first time.

The system is similar to the navigation system for large airport commander lifts and has been tested at Monza, Imola and Barcelona in the past decade to ensure that FIA's stringent requirements are met.

The professional requirements of the F1 Singapore Grand Prix require a large-scale logistics organization. The conference used 1,10,000 meters of cable, 240 steel poles and 1,500 light projectors to deliver the best light, which is about four times brighter than the average stadium. The system is powered by 12 dual-motor generators, each of which is staffed by an engineer.

Michael McDonough, engineering director of the F1 Singapore Grand Prix, said: I believe the F1 Singapore Grand Prix will be the most exciting and anticipated Formula One event in 50 years. All teams are interested in the event and participate enthusiastically. All the Formula One staff will strive to make this event even more different. I believe this will be a historic competition. Therefore, everyone is looking forward to the arrival of the event, it will definitely be wonderful!

Singapore wants to showcase new technologies for the next event. In this country, known for its high efficiency and organizational strength, the F1 Singapore Grand Prix in September will make the city the focus of the world.
