Appearance out of the box

Comparative assessment

The 4 projectors used this time compare the machines used for the evaluation. (Because the Sony 40es has been fixed to the pylon, it has not been removed, compared to a foam block that is positively close to the body). Sony 40ES and meter H1 comparison test

First of all, I still let two projectors connect to the amplifier at the same time so that they all light up. H1's lens has an optical zoom of 1.1 times. When I opened his lens to the wide-angle end, it was just about the same distance as the 40ES. The entire 119-inch screen was filled with sound. At the same time, after a simple comparison, it was found that the Polar meter H1 has better transparency and color perception when the projection mode is “bright”, and the subsequent screen shots are all based on “bright” settings.

Then we discovered that the strange phenomenon was that the HMI H1 was connected to the amplifier, but the displayed images couldn't be displayed completely. It always seemed to magnify the middle part of the screen, causing the projection of the edge of the screen beyond the scope of the screen. Especially when this font is in the marginal part, it is somewhat inconvenient.

However, after several power-offs and turns, the problem of aspect ratio seems to have improved a lot. Looking at the projection of the two projectors at the same time, it seems to be a good coincidence.

And when the input source of H1 is switched, the DVI4 interface information will be displayed when the HDMI interface 1 inputs a signal, is it prompted that some common channels of the HDMI interface and the DVI interface cause the screen size to be distorted due to conversion.

This is followed by a screen shot of the 40ES and H1. The first is the boot screen of Haimeidi Q5. It can be clearly seen that the color of H1 (the latter, after which the screen shots are all H1 is behind) is brighter, and the contrast ratio is higher than 40ES (the former), but the details of transparency and darkness are worse than 40ES.

The evaluation of the projector is, of course, indispensable to the animation. The bright colors and clear details of the cartoon become an important weapon for testing the projector.

I personally liked the movie "Imitation Game." The texture of the old color processing was very strong. The rotor of the group of "bomb" machines also made me feel the powerful power of technology.

This is followed by a scene from the Dolby Panasonic Blu-ray Disc. Everyone is still focusing on the transparency and level of the screen.

Finally, it is the most extreme test of the space scene in Interstellar. The starry sky has a high requirement for the black level and resolution of the projector.

We can see that H1 seems to be significantly brighter and more stars. In fact, the 40ES is darker and the stars are not as bright. It seems that the entire space is more profound. However, the background blackness of the two projectors is still very good, and the black border of the projection screen can hardly be seen, which means that the black level can reach a relatively good level. We have a good look at the light from the projection lens. This may be related to H1's own image optimization. For such an extremely dark scene, increasing the contrast without significantly increasing the background brightness can make the application scene with less shading project a more brilliant image. This may be the unique image optimization technology of the exclusive rice.

Take a closer look at the clarity of the projection. The two machines are projected onto the screen at the same time. The left one is the H1 projection screen and the right one is the 40ES projection screen. This is the true resolution level of 1080p. It can be said that the resolution of the two is comparable.

After the above test, you can hear the sound of H1's fan whine. You can feel the temperature of the air outlet by hand. It is not high, but with the fan's “automatic” setting, the front noise of the machine is 52.7 dB, and the same power-on condition The noise of the 40ES is only 41 decibels. From this point of view, the 40ES has won.

After manually setting the fan speed, noise is significantly suppressed. At a minimum air volume of "1", the noise was only 41.5 dB and it was very quiet. After a short period of use, the temperature of the air outlet rises slightly. It seems that there is still room for further optimization of this noise and heat balance.

In this price difference assessment, 40ES projectors that are fully optimized for home theater applications can meet demanding audio and video room requirements, and H1 falls short in many scenarios. But considering his selling price, it seems that the strict requirements are not reasonable either. So we moved out of the same price of general commercial / teaching projectors, because its price dropped early to 5,000 yuan, and the brightness is very high, which in the previous home theater applications should be the absolute mainstream products.

Sony EX271 and Polar meters H1 comparison test

Both projectors turn on at the same time.

At the same time projected to the screen. In fact, because this projector has been used for a long time, the 3700 stream has obviously been shrinking. Projecting together on the same screen, there is no great advantage in seeing brightness. It is less than XGA's resolution is very bright, the huge mosaic is presented on the screen. Gives people a feeling of "code".

The color of the projected screen is obviously reddish.

Take screen shots in sequence. Excluding the color problem, it was found that the details of the dark part of the EX271 did not have any advantage over the H1.

When zoomed in to 100%, you can clearly see the pixels at a distance of about 3.5 meters from the screen...

It can be said that when comparing conventional low-resolution commercial projectors with H1 at a comparable price, traditional commercial projectors are not as good as H1 projectors in terms of color and resolution, in addition to possible brightness advantages. Users who are still using commercial/teaching projectors as video sources can be assured of upgrading to H1 projectors at the same price, which is definitely much more effective than traditional commercial products.

Polar meter Z4X and meter meter H1 comparison test

This is a contest between two brothers. Extremely Z4X as a previous generation model has achieved a good response in the market. But after all, because of his low brightness (580 lumens) and diamonds arranged 720p pixels, in the last evaluation, I just put it in the "non-screen TV" range, and can not be used as a strict theater projector. In this comparison, we need to see where H1 has improved over him.

The two projectors are projected onto a 119-inch screen at the same time. The picture is H1, and Z4X is on the picture. It can be seen that the H1 brightness is significantly higher than the Z4X brightness, and the white word appears more clearly.

100% of the screenshots can be seen, Z4X font edges have more obvious jags.

For close-up viewing, the diamond-shaped Z4X clearly feels a rough font.

Playing the main page of the Sea Medio Q5, H1's color permeability is still stronger than the Z4X.

Watching the new version of Xiao Huangren, the same is true for the difference in color performance. The difference in resolution is also reflected in the word “FRANCE” on the ship.

In general, H1 is all-round for Z4X, especially in terms of brightness, resolution, and color. If before the Z4X can only play "visible" role in the theater, H1 is a better way to restore the real scene in the movie, giving people a little feeling of a private cinema.

Application examples in different scenarios

We know that applying a projector at home is nothing more than using it in the living room and bedroom. In particular, the brighter light in the living room and the placement of projectors in the bedroom have become obstacles to limiting potential consumers. In the subsequent evaluation, I will test the H1 projector separately in the living room and bedroom to see if it can adapt to different usage scenarios.

The first is the living room. In the living room, I set up an 84-inch bracket curtain (why does the family say that the curtain is the same as Amway?). Everyone can compare with the 70-inch TV behind. The 84-inch projection screen still looks much larger.

When the curtain facing the projection screen is pulled up, the effect comes out. It seems that the effect is still more useful.

But this kind of black cockroaches is very inconvenient in the living room, so I opened the general curtains. This effect is also acceptable, but it can be seen anyway. In other words, if you want to use this projector in the living room during the day, it is best to pull all the curtains. If you only pull half the curtains, you can achieve the "visible" effect.

In the official propaganda of H1, it was repeatedly emphasized that this machine has a left and right trapezoidal correction function. Then I have to briefly explain what is trapezoidal correction.

As shown in the above figure, the normal projection position of the projector should be the center of the lens of the projector and the bottom (desktop) or top (hanging) level of the screen. The midpoint of the bottom or top of the screen should coincide with the midpoint of the projector lens. . In other words, the projection lens of most projectors only uses the upper part (except the projector that supports lens shift). This is very easy to understand why the projector should be kept horizontal to the top of the screen while staying at the midpoint of the screen. Only in this way can you project the correct picture without distortion. If the projector does not stay horizontal with the top of the screen, vertical keystone distortion will occur if the projector lens can only be tilted upwards or downwards. Similarly, horizontal keystone distortion will occur if the projector cannot be centered. In most cases, the projector is easy to align with the midpoint of the screen, so horizontal keystone distortion is not common. More often than not, vertical trapezoidal correction is common in the living room, where the height of the hanger, the adapter plate in the middle of the projector and the hanger, and the presence of the black edge on the electric screen cause the height to often be inaccurate. Almost all projector manufacturers have also made vertical trapezoidal corrections in the machine. Using software, the picture is stretched in the horizontal direction, so that the inconsistency in the upper and lower width is resolved. However, with the increasing use of projectors, many people install the projector in the bedroom. Excluding the previously mentioned fixed-type hanger installation, the projector placed on the bedside cabinet is far from the midpoint of the screen, so there must be a huge horizontal trapezoidal distortion. Although the high-end projectors are equipped with a lens shift function, it is obviously impossible to apply them to micro-projections due to the large lens size and cost. Some manufacturers optimize the algorithm and develop horizontal trapezoidal correction. When the bedroom application is not very strict on the screen, the projector can be placed on the nightstand with confidence and still project a normal picture at the end of the bed. As shown below.

The next step is to actually experience this new feature. The position of the projector on my bedside table is like this. The projector screen is directly projected on the opposite wall (because of the wallpaper, everyone will endure it...)

In this case, the projector is far away from the middle point of the screen. Of course, the horizontal trapezoidal deformation is relatively large. As you can see, the screen is significantly higher away from the projector. Next, we will do trapezoidal correction.

The correction screen of trapezoidal correction is such that it is convenient for us to see the adjustment.

Just press the arrow keys to control the four-corner control points of the black box, and horizontally align it with the ceiling line and the wall line. After adjusting, the effect is this. How do you basically do not see distortion? Although the picture size has been reduced since the adjustment, the picture of 4 meters in width is still very shocking. Compared to the 50-inch TV set in a common bedroom, it's pretty cool.

Let's take the projector to the second bedroom and see. Since the bedroom in the second bedroom is small, the nightstands are also relatively short. Therefore, if the screen is not blocked by the body in the bed, something must be put underneath. This means that the projector's optical axis is not horizontal, so vertical trapezoidal correction and horizontal trapezoidal correction are used together. At the same time, a smaller bedroom means that the projector is at a greater angle relative to the midpoint of the projection screen and therefore requires a stronger trapezoidal correction.

Adjust two control points away from the projector. Note that this time added vertical trapezoidal correction, and because the angle is larger, the picture is stretched in the horizontal direction, and the X-axis should be shortened properly. Otherwise, the characters you see are all fat ones. The four parameters are as follows. Still perfect.

Looking at the edges of the fonts at the near end and at the far end is still relatively smooth and does not have a noticeable effect on the viewing.

As the room is small, the distance from the projector is even closer. Last time the Z4X annoying current sound came out of the power adapter. After switching to a more powerful adapter this time, we will test the power consumption. 0.65 watts in standby, very energy-efficient.

After lighting the machine, it is 85 watts or less. Only 60% of the rated output of the 135 watt power adapter, so it is very smooth, no noise, heat is relatively small. Completely improved power bug on Z4X.

Disadvantages:

1. Tone adjustments need to be further efforts, details of the shadows should be more natural;

2. The cooling noise is relatively large. Considering that the air temperature is not high, the fan speed can be properly reduced.

3. The screen display ratio problem needs to be corrected in the subsequent firmware.

Compared with the previous micro-projectors, the Polar H1 projector has a tremendous increase in resolution, brightness, and color. Its effect has surpassed the traditional light bulb machine of commercial/education type. Although in the rigorous test, compared to a dedicated theater projector has a certain disadvantage in the dark details and tone, but does not feel any discomfort when used in a less strict scene. Taking into account its price is far lower than the price of theater projectors such as 40ES, TW8200, etc., although it is called "non-screen TV", but the use of H1 as a movie viewer can still be used, and has the advantage of cost performance. But obviously in the bedroom application, its advantages are more obvious, simple operation, good sound quality, horizontal trapezoidal correction function is very practical. In addition, his appearance is absolutely worthy of any bedroom. As shown below, the face value is very high.

Last but not least, I would like to give advice to the company. In this M1 projector and the last Z4X projector, we did not see the LOGO of the product in the front, but instead we marked the Harman Caton speaker LOGO. Although Harman Kardon is one of the selling points, isn't the product of Kemi's own product not good enough? Not worth showing about the brand? The company should be more confident, and it is entirely possible to mark its own LOGO in a positive or conspicuous place.
