In the LCD TV industry, manufacturers who can control panel supply in the event of a panel shortage will surely gain the largest market share. In the case of oversupply of panels, manufacturers who can buy panels at low prices can also reduce costs and increase profits. In contrast to oversupply, television manufacturers prefer supply shortages, because supply less than demand can stimulate consumers to buy quickly; and if supply exceeds demand, prices fall rapidly and consumers delay purchases to wait for lower prices.

According to the IHS DisplaySearch LCD TV value chain and analysis quarterly report, the influence of the top three TV brand manufacturers on the panel supply of major size will continue to expand this year. According to the business plan of LCD TV manufacturers in 2015, the six most popular size panels required by the top three TV manufacturers will account for more than half of all panel supply. If there is a shortage of supply, other TV manufacturers will have difficulty obtaining panels of these sizes.
