China Mobile expands smart ODN live network pilot to large-scale commercial use

News from August 1, according to people familiar with the matter, China Mobile officially launched a larger-scale smart ODN live network pilot project, including ZTE, Huawei, Shanghai Bell, and Fiberhome, after piloting in Guangdong and Yunnan provinces. After more than two years of development, smart ODN technology has moved towards large-scale commercial use. At present, major operators are actively carrying out research and application of intelligent ODN, and the process of intelligent ODN standardization is also nearing completion. These have paved the way for the large-scale application of intelligent ODN.

China Mobile's smart ODN pilot program mainly tests the performance and functions of smart ODN systems that manufacturers can provide at this stage, masters the maturity of their equipment and networking capabilities, and verifies the advantages of smart ODN systems in the management and maintenance of optical fiber resources in the existing network. To verify the feasibility of existing network applications and provide networking solutions and performance references for China Mobile to introduce intelligent ODN.

Unlike China Unicom and China Telecom, which have huge stock assets, China Mobile has many new optical fiber networks and large applications of smart ODN.
